CISPA is Back and I Don't Care Anymore
CISPA is Back and I Don't Care Anymore | manurevah on Manurevah

Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act which would enter U.S. law if passed, the House of Representatives will be voting on this in the next few days. There are many flaws with this, the EFF has a good FAQ about CISPA. In short it gives power to private companies to share their user's data with 3rd parties whenever they feel like it. This concerns anyone who uses an American company for anything from forums to email and so on.

Obama promised to veto it which could mean he'll actually sign it and say he has some reservations, a bit like with the NDAA.

You Are A Criminal (if you are American)
You Are A Criminal | manurevah on Manurevah

If you are American it is possible that by violating the Terms of Service of a website (which constantly change without warning) that you are a criminal. With that in mind, here are my Terms of Service:

By visiting this website you are exceeding your authorized access.
Therefore you are a criminal.
Bob Mottram
As I understand it, a TOS violation was the reason why they were trying to send Aaron Swartz to jail for 30+ years.

If violating TOS is a crime then it's possible that there will be honeypot business models where users are attracted to a particular site where they automatically violate TOS and are then issued with RIAA style extortion letters (pay a fine or we'll report your "crime").
Emmanuel Revah
Which is partially what I am getting at.
: ]

That and the ridiculous things that can become law, for example it could be in the Terms that you must be wearing a sock on your head while visiting using the website. Anything goes basically and it can become "law".

Do not Reply Emails Should not be Delivered

There are too many emails being sent from donotreply@domain.tld addresses. These addresses explicitly don't exist and/or will not accept emails, yet they are the sender/replyto of important emails like order confirmations and what not. I've recently seen this for domain name transfers.

The Pie Chart-ish
I continued working on my SVG with web stats and finally got it too look like a Pie Chart. I'm using web stats data just because it's fresh and live data that I can use to demonstrate, but this could be used for anything of course.

The idea is to update the good old Pie Chart. So voila, the The Pie Chart-ish.

Sorry I cannot embed this here as it's an SVG. Also note, no Javascript was used to make this, just plain HTML/CSS and SVG. All data is live, it's the percentage of visits in various sections of the website in the last 60 minutes.

DNS Hijacking via Barefruit Talktalk and Others
How malicious is your ISP ?

If they practice DNS hijacking then it's pretty damn messed up and should obviously be illegal. Yet for some reason there are ISPs that do this and have been getting away with this for years. Even stranger is that it's apparently tolerated, by clients as well as law.

I finally got some time to read through this interview of Linus Torvalds today. He's known to have an aggressive sense of humor, sometimes funny, sometimes stupid and gratuitous, he's aware of that and that's how I justify my respect for the guy. That and seriously, the Linux kernel is pretty pretty pretty good. I have a remark to make on something he said, I'll try to address this in a hopefully compatible tone.

Lately there's been a lot of noise on Secure Boot, AKA Restricted Boot. The short version is that with "Secure Boot" enabled, computers can only boot to systems signed by a CA recognised by the hardware....

Manu, 5 months later I am really back to mist.loozah.com..
But I can't figure out how to I connect to other people? Like for example TorProject?
How do I delete a picture? Is there no button for this?
How do I write a private message to someone?
I ctrl-F'd the fine manual, but i thought a little explanation would suit me better here :)

Zurker - Making Pyramids Appear Flat
Today after reading a post about Zurker I started to dig around and found out more about what this thing is.

It's a bit long and I have trouble posting long articles here (converting from HTML to BBcode would take me 2 or 3 days). So here's the link to the full article:

I didn't realize that they were also selling non-tradeable "vshares". That makes it even more suspect. Apparently you get more vshares the more minions you recruit, so it's basically a pyramid scheme and that's why you'll see a lot of evangelists.

@Julian Schweinsberg Thanks :]

I just corrected the whois dates, zurker.com -> sept 3 2011, zurkerscam.com -> sep 25 2011, just 3 weeks apart.

@Bob Mottram Indeed and I just noticed so many evangelist websites, even some with only one blog post with an invite, like joinzurker.blogspot.co.uk.

The whole thing smells of Nigerian bank scams, it does resemble the fortitude thing.

hmm, oh well. I am guessing this flew by because nobody really "got it" or it was just drowned in noise.

Short version, I nominated @Mike for an EFF Pioneer Award because:

What does it take to be a Pioneer?
The nominees must have contributed substantially to the health, growth, accessibility, or freedom of computer-based communications. The contribution may be technical, social, economic, or cultural.

FunnyJunk Threatens TheOatmeal
FunnyJunk, a website whose main "about us" link is a Copyright Infringement Notification page, has hired an "Internet lawyer" to put pressure on TheOatmeal to remove any content that speaks of them.

FunnyJunk just realised their SEO is really bad, when you search for them TheOatmeal comes up in the results, since the story broke it's even worse. Instead of re-thinking their SEO they decided to threaten TheOatmel and get them to remove any content referring to them. One of the things FunnyJunk doesn't find funny is:

Here's how FunnyJunk.com's business operates:

1. Gather funny pictures from around the internet
2. Host them on FunnyJunk.com
3. Slather them in advertising
4. If someone claims copyright infringement, throw your hands up in the air and exclaim "It was our users who uploaded your photos! We had n

Restricted Boot
Tell computer manufacturers that you dislike the concept of restricted boot and will not purchase a device that removes user's freedoms.

http://www.fsf.org/campaigns/secure-boot-vs-restricted-boot/statement

We, the undersigned, urge all computer makers implementing UEFI's so-called "Secure Boot" to do it in a way that allows free software operating systems to be installed. To respect user freedom and truly protect user security, manufacturers must either allow computer owners to disable the boot restrictions, or provide a sure-fire way for them to install and run a free software operating system of their choice. We commit that we will neither purchase nor recommend computers that strip users of this critical freedom, and we will actively urge people in our communities to avoid such jailed systems.

Edit: The FSF webpage might return some errors. It should work now, however if you do get any errors you can send your name and email directly to webmaster@fsf.org.
